Advice On Starting to Blog

I am coming to understand that writing is hard. Put me in front of a White board, and I can share a design or a concept pretty well, but explaining a concept in writing is difficult for me. My wife has been blogging for some time. She explains that the only way to improve one's writing skills is to actually write.

I've tried to start blogging a few times, but have had no success. I would like to use the blog as an opportunity to practice my writing skills. Today, I spoke to my manager about how to get started blogging. His advice was:
  • Pick small topics to begin with. Large posts are difficult to write, taking considerable time, so often never see the light of day.
  • Start by commenting about other peoples posts. This provides you with topics, further lowering the barrier to posting.
  • Don't expect an audience. Write for yourself, if anyone else cares it is a bonus.
My goal is to publish ten posts on this blog in the next month. You all will be witness to whether I can apply his advice to meet my own goal. Wish me luck!
